SDC Expert Answers: Standalone Battery Powered Door Lockset With Remote Control Input

Name: Paul, Pomeroy & Co., Inc.

Question: Please reply with links to SDC “stand alone battery powered lock-sets” for two applications:

  1. Residential/Entry Door (Electric Lockset or Bolt)
  2. Residential/Medicine cabinet Remote control capable units required in both cases

Answer:

STANDALONE BATTERY POWERED DOOR LOCKSET WITH REMOTE CONTROL INPUT
While not shown in literature, all SDC E70 Series Battery Powered Locks are equipped with a remote release input. However, this remote control input requires the installation of 2 wires to be run through the door from the lock stile to the hinge stile and then to the frame jamb via a power loop or electric hinge which is then wired to the remote control device such as, button, keypad or keyswitch. Generally, residential entry doors are not fire rated and do not require inspection. However, residential swinging doors that provide access from the garage into the primary home/living area are typically fire rated (look for fire label on hinge stile) and may require inspection after installation to ensure fire door integrity is maintained.

Can we remove the components from the base plate and fabricate in to the header piece? If so, will this void any warranty? Any suggestions?
